Beluga Lake Skaters

This was our 2026 Xmas print! This was a pretty quick print idk why. I guess there is a lot less detail than I typically include. It was my first time using white ink to print on colored paper and I love how it turned out! Makes it look extra wintery. Really want to try it again with my next snowy print. Maybe on dark blue paper or something.

This print combines elements from memory and from photos. During COVID, when the annual Christmas Eve skate was on Beluga lake instead of at the rink, they had a big christmas tree in the middle of the part they hot-mopped (because we actually had snow that year, unlike this year). They always do this at the rink too. Anyway, no tree this year but it feels like something out of Charlie Brown or something to me. I used a pic of Ben and Naomi (see below) as the overall reference pic.

We had lots and lots of super awesome skating around Xmas time this year. Made my heart super happy. Skating is so much fun. Also got to skate on the reservoir this year, which I don’t ever remember doing before. That was freaking awesome. Putting some pictures of that below too because it was so amazeballs. Also skated on Lampert, of course.

The day that Ben and I got back home from our respective places, we went for a skate and saw George (the kiteboarding guy) at Beluga and he had a foil that he let us try. It was rly fun to zoom across the lake. And also a lot less scary than using Papa’s training kite. That thing was crazy. Super fun to skate with it but sometimes it would start spinning in circles uncontrollably and I couldn’t stop me and it would just drag me across the lake on my skates super fast. So I need to figure out how to control it better so I don’t die or, even worse, damange the kite.

Could go on and on and on and on about the magic and beauty of Xmas time skating with family and friends but I’ll stop for now.
